The trip in a small 4WD bus with 14 other people was fabulous
The trip in a small 4WD bus with 14 other people was fabulous. Our driver James was extremely competent in driving very difficult roads and was very friendly, efficient and extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He made our day very pleasant. The stop at Hermannsburg was fascinating. Amazing history and preserved old buildings. A must do. Driving along the Finke River was amazing and the Cycads growing along one escarpment on the way is beautiful. The walk to a lookout overlooking Palm Valley was really good and Palm Valley itself is beautiful. We did another walk to view the amphitheatre with amazing views. We also had a lovely packed lunch. Would highly recommend this tour. Don't miss it!

Palm Valley is a beautiful place and
Palm Valley is a beautiful place and, if you have time, you really should go. AAT Kings provide a great experience: the 4WD bus is comfortable with charger points for your phone and working aircon, the morning tea break at Hermannsburg and picnic lunch were great and the guide had some good information to give. The only downside of this trip is the lack of time you have to explore Finke Gorge National Park and Palm Valley itself. It is a fairly long drive to get to Finke Gorge, we spent an hour in Hermannsburg and you only have one guide for the tour so you can't split into walking groups based on ability. We spent a lot of time waiting for people to catch up and there were signs for a 2 hour hike that many of us wanted to go but were unable to due to the tour itinerary and lack of the second guide. If you only have one day to explore and cannot drive, this tour is a good experience but if you're a strong walker and have the ability to drive, hire a car with some mates.

Great chance to explore around the Finke River and Palm Valley
Great chance to explore around the Finke River and Palm Valley. Not exactly a rough and tumble 4WD trip and the guide tended to exaggerate the "getting rough" parts. Also finished way early so he was scrambling on how to extend the tour thus we ended up back at one of the stops for 1/2hr to "explore" again. Guiding was great and the morning tea/lunch was decent.
